Fair Trade.
Its definitely a word that has been circulating the Engineers Without Borders tracks for a long time now. In fact, EWB Canada spends much of its Public Outreach focused upon raising awareness about Fair Trade.
Moreover, it is spreading beyond the context of just international organizations too. More and more often I have been finding coffee and chocolate shops boastinf Fair Trade products. Even my local grocery store is starting to carry a number of goods with Fair Trade logos.
So, what is Fair Trade and why should we be buying it?
Honestly, I didn’t know.
Therefore I thought it would be best to get in touch with someone who did. I was lucky enough to get our Vice-President, Georges Mikhael, out of office hours…for a bit of a chat and the 411 on Fair Trade, and why we should be seriously considering it as an alternative when purchasing products.
